BankPDFtoXLS turns an ICICI Bank statement PDF into a spreadsheet with the columns the statement prints, and it checks every balance on the way.
What an ICICI statement looks like
- An ICICI savings account statement has six columns: DATE, MODE, PARTICULARS, DEPOSITS, WITHDRAWALS and BALANCE. Deposits come before withdrawals.
- The MODE column says how the money moved, such as DEBIT CARD, MOBILE BANKING, NET BANKING or CASH DEPOSIT. Many rows leave it blank.
- The particulars start with the payment's channel: UPI, NEFT, IMPS, VPS for a debit card payment, or BIL for a bill paid online. What each code means.
- Every transaction has its own date, written like 02-04-2019, and its own balance.
- Amounts are written in lakhs and crores, as in 2,04,759.22. The converter reads them as numbers, so the Excel download adds them up.
- The B/F line, the balance brought forward, comes through as a row of its own.

How we test it
The converter is tested against two ICICI statements, of six months and a year, 34 pages in all: 879 transactions, and every one of them balances against the row before it.
