BankPDFtoXLS turns a Metro Bank statement PDF into a spreadsheet with the columns the statement prints, and it checks every balance on the way.
What a Metro Bank statement looks like
- A Metro Bank statement has five columns: Date, Transaction, Money out, Money in and Balance.
- The Transaction column starts with the kind of payment, spelt out: Inward Payments, Outward Fast Payments, Card Purchase or DD Payments for a direct debit. The converter keeps it at the start of the description cell, so you can sort or filter on it.
- A card purchase also carries the date and time it was made, such as 02/06/19 09:15:48, before the shop's name. That stays in the description too.
- Every transaction has its own date, written like 01 JUN 2019, and its own balance.
- The Balance brought forward line at the top and the Closing Balance line at the end come through as rows of their own, so the sheet starts and ends where the statement does.

How we test it
