BankPDFtoXLS turns a Nationwide statement PDF into a spreadsheet with the columns the statement prints. Nationwide leaves most rows without a balance, so the converter works out each missing balance and checks every one it can.
What a Nationwide statement looks like
- A Nationwide statement has five columns: Date, Description, £ Out, £ In and £ Balance.
- The date is printed on the first transaction of each day, written like 16 Jun, without the year.
- The statement opens with a Balance from statement line, dated with the year alone. It comes through as a row of its own, with that year as its date.
- A description often runs over two lines, such as Contactless Payment above the shop's name. The converter puts those lines in one row, with the amount.
- Nationwide prints the balance once a day, against the day's last transaction.
- A card payment in another currency has a line with the amount it was in and the rate, like 20.000000EUR at 1.16000, and a Non-Sterling transaction fee after it. The converter keeps that line in the description, the pounds in £ Out, and the fee as a row of its own.

The rows above are an example, not a real statement.
A date that the statement leaves blank stays blank in the spreadsheet. Fill them in with three steps in Excel.
How we test it
The converter is tested against two Nationwide statements: 129 transactions in all, and the Ledger column flags none of them. 39 balance against a balance Nationwide printed. The converter filled in the other 90, the rows Nationwide prints no balance for.
