BankPDFtoXLS turns a TSB statement PDF into a spreadsheet with the columns the statement prints, and it checks every balance on the way.
What a TSB statement looks like
- A TSB statement has six columns: Date, Payment type, Details, Money Out (£), Money In (£) and Balance (£).
- The Payment type column spells the kind of payment out in words, such as FASTER PAYMENT, DIRECT DEBIT, DIRECT CREDIT, CASH WITHDRAWAL or DEPOSIT OF CASH. Some rows leave it blank.
- The details often run onto a second line, such as a payment reference. The converter keeps that line in the same row, in the Details cell, so each transaction is one row.
- Every transaction has its own date, written like 16 Dec 20, and its own balance.

How we test it
The converter is tested against three TSB statements, one of them a scan read with OCR: 119 transactions in all. 115 of them balance against the row before. The Ledger column flags the other 4, all in one statement, so you know which rows to check.
