BankPDFtoXLS turns a Monzo statement PDF into a spreadsheet with the columns the statement prints. It checks every balance, the account's and each pot's, and keeps the pots apart from the account.
What a Monzo statement looks like
- A Monzo statement has four columns: Date, Description, (GBP) Amount and (GBP) Balance. Money out is a negative amount.
- The newest transaction comes first.
- The account's own transactions come first. After them, each pot has a section of its own, headed Pot statement, with its own running balance. A pot with no transactions in the period adds no rows.
- Moving money into a pot shows up twice: as Transfer to Pot in the account, and as a deposit in the pot.
- A card payment in another currency has the original amount and the conversion rate in its description.
What the spreadsheet looks like
An Account column names the account each row belongs to: Personal Account or Business Account, or the pot's name. Each pot's balance is checked against its own rows, so the join between the account and a pot is never counted as a break.
In the Excel download each account has a sheet of its own. A column you add up on one sheet is that account's money, so a move into a pot is not counted twice.

How we test it
The converter is tested against five Monzo statements, personal and business, with 464 transactions in all across the accounts and their pots. In four of the statements the Ledger column flags none of their 328 transactions. The fifth had been changed in a PDF editor after Monzo issued it, and the Ledger column flags the 7 rows where the changed figures no longer add up.
